The Mississippi State University Police Department is calling on the public to help identify a man suspected of sexually assaulting a coed June 5 near McKee Hall.
Police Tuesday released a more detailed description of the suspect. He is believed to be an African American or Hispanic male between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall with a medium build and a close-shaved haircut. At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing either a light gray or white t-shirt, dark tan cargo shorts and dark colored athletic shoes.
The family of the victim, whom police have not identified, is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
The student told police she was approached at the intersection of Lee and Coliseum boulevards as she walked back to her apartment June 5 between 4-4:30 a.m. Threatened with a gun, the student was assaulted near McKee Hall before her assailant fled, police said.
Anyone who saw someone fitting the suspect”s description on campus around the time of the sexual assault or anyone who may have been approached by someone fitting his description is urged to contact the MSU Police Department at 662-325-2121.
Mississippi State police also are urging individuals to report:

- Incidents where a suspicious male was encountered in a location where they should not be, such as a dorm room, and when questioned, they gave an innocent answer as to why they were there.
- Incidents where an individual was approached by a stranger who made unwanted advances.
- Anyone who has overheard someone bragging about a sexual assault or use of a handgun.
In addition to contacting the MSU Police Department, information may be given to the Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers tip line by calling 1-800-530-7151.
