A Maben man has been sentenced to serve 15 years in Mississippi Department of Corrections, with additional time suspended, after pleading guilty to two counts of burglary of a shed, one count of grand larceny and another of possession of stolen property in Oktibbeha County Circuit Court.
Jason Williams, 44, was accused of stealing a trailer on July 2, 2016; having copper wire that he stole from APAC Mississippi, Inc. on July 11, 2016; and breaking into a shed on June 23 and 28, 2016.
Williams was sentenced to seven years in prison with four suspended, three to serve and seven years with five suspended, two to serve for each count of burglary of a shed. He was also sentenced to four and five years post-release supervision for each count, $4,783.32 restitution and a $2,500 fine. Williams also received a five-year sentence for possession of stolen property and a five-year sentence for grand larceny.
Coming into the term, Williams also faced counts of burglary of a dwelling, arson of a commercial building, aiding in the escape of an inmate and accessory after the fact of a burglary. Those charges were dismissed with his plea.
However, Williams is accused of helping Daniel Easley, 40, after Easely escaped from the Calhoun County Jail in November 2016 and of hiding guns that Easley stole in a burglary in December 2015.
Both Williams and Easely have been charged with arson in what Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott called an “arson for hire” scheme that resulted in a November 2015 fire at the West Point Stockyards. They’ve also been charged in a June 2015 fire that destroyed a home in west Clay County.
Those charges are still pending in Clay County Circuit Court, according to court personnel.
