A Columbus man is behind bars after an estranged family member reported he was sending her threatening text messages.
Deputies with Lowndes County Sheriff's Office arrested Darrett Dewayne Harris, 45, of 619 Fourth St. S., on Aug. 30 and charged him with cyberstalking.
From Aug. 10 to Aug. 15, the victim said, Harris sent her at least 12 threatening messages, at different times saying he would shoot her or kill her and calling her obscenities, according to a general affidavit from Lowndes County Justice Court. In some of the messages, Harris threatened to break through her door and shoot her.
The victim also told deputies that on Aug. 18 a gray Crown Victoria turned around in her driveway and that a man exited the car and fired a gun west of her home, though deputies did not find any damage to the victim's property, the affidavit says.
Harris is currently in Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on $250,000 bond.
