An 18-year-old is in custody for a Monday night robbery in Lowndes County.
Deputies arrested Allen Torez Moon, of 2202 Shannon Ave., on Tuesday, according to a Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office press release. Moon is accused of stealing cash from the B-Mart store on Highway 50 East after putting the cashier in a choke hold.
Deputies responded to the B-Mart store 9 p.m. Monday where the cashier reported she had been robbed. According to a LCSO incident report, the cashier was closing up the store when Moon walked in, grabbed her and demanded that she give him money because his baby had just died.
The victim told deputies she began to grapple with the suspect and that they both fell to the ground where he got her in a rear choke hold, according to the report. They both got to their feet and he made her get money out of the cash register, still holding her in a choke hold. The suspect told the cashier he didn’t want to hurt her.
Once the suspect had taken an undisclosed amount of money and gotten to the store’s door, he released the cashier and ran toward Tabernacle Road where, the victim reported, she thought she saw him get into a Chevrolet Tahoe, though she couldn’t tell what color.
The victim described the suspect as a light skinned black man wearing a women’s purple zip-up sweater, black sweat pants with an orange stripe on both legs and a blue piece of cloth covering his face. Deputies later found his discarded clothing near the scene, according to the press release.
The victim said she thought she recognized his voice as someone who had been in the store before. She added Moon did not threaten her with a weapon.
Moon is currently in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center and his bond has not been set.
