One person has died following a head-on collision in Columbus last night.
Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the accident, which occurred just south of Columbus Air Force Base on Highway 45 North just before 7 p.m. The drivers of both vehicles involved were taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle where one was pronounced dead.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant identified the deceased as 32-year-old Louis Ray McWilliams of West Point.
According to MHP Sgt. Derrick Beckom, McWilliams was driving south when he collided with a northbound vehicle. Merchant said McWilliams was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer.
MHP is still investigating the cause of the accident.
