Clean-up crews clear sodium hydroxide on College Street between Third and Fourth streets Saturday. The sodium hydroxide, which is a substance used to make soaps, leaked from a truck Friday afternoon, said Lowndes County Emergency Management Director Cindy Lawrence. EMA, the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality and Columbus Fire and Rescue crews spent Saturday cleaning the mess. The sodium hydroxide is not dangerous and will not hurt people or damage buildings or yards. Photo by: Deanna Robinson/Dispatch Staff
