A Macon woman has been charged with embezzlement after allegedly giving away money and merchandise from a Columbus business.
Officers with Columbus Police Department arrested Angela Lashell Edwards, 44, of 2006 Gillespie Road, Friday after a Highway 45 North business reported the embezzlement to investigators, according to a CPD press release.
The press release didn’t name the business, but authorities said Edwards had stolen more than $5,500 worth of money and merchandise.
CPD Chief Fred Shelton called it a “complicated case” with Edwards apparently making duplicate receipts for items, issuing refunds for items that had never been purchased and giving away merchandise to customers.
Edwards has been released from Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on $5,000 bond.
