MONROEVILLE — A man wanted in Mississippi was caught when a property owner in Alabama spotted him climbing out a window of a house under renovation.
Jacob Conn, 25, remained in jail Wednesday in Monroe County, Mississippi, his bond set at $25,000 on charges including felony fleeing from law enforcement, assault on a police officer and third-offense drunken driving, Sheriff Cecil Cantrell said.
Conn was wanted for questioning about a scrapyard fire Monday morning in Lowndes County. Monroe County deputies spotted him later that day at a gas station in Hamilton but he drove off, hitting a patrol car. Police shot out two of his tires, but the chase lasted about 30 miles before the truck crashed in Alabama.
Cantrell said he’s sure Lowndes deputies will be questioning Conn. “He was driving a stolen truck. It was stolen out of their county,” and held equipment and tools reported stolen from businesses in Lowndes County, Cantrell said.
The sheriff did not know whether Conn has an attorney who could speak for him, or what his blood-alcohol level was when he was arrested.
