Another restaurant is setting up shop in Columbus.
Zaxby”s, a restaurant chain based in Athens, Ga., has announced that that it will open a new installment of its franchise.
Melinda Grimes, a spokeswoman for Zaxby”s, confirmed that the new location. The restaurant specializes in fried chicken fingers, wings and sandwiches.
“We do have a Columbus, Miss., location listed on the books,” Grimes said. “However, it”s still very early in the process.”
Some of the final details are still being ironed out between the corporation and Lowndes County. For that reason, Grimes was hesitant to give a specific date for the grand opening.
However, the company has already begun advertising for the new location. There is a sign announcing the coming eatery at the site where ground is being broken for construction. The restaurant will be built near the old Blockbuster location at the intersection of Highway 45 North and 18th Avenue, across from Walgreens. Commercials for the chain were also airing on local television stations on Tuesday.
“We can”t wait,” Grimes said. “We like moving into a new area.”
Steve Taylor, who owns another Zaxby”s location in Alabama, confirmed he will be the owner of Columbus” franchise.
Zaxby”s, which has about 500 locations primarily in the Southeast, has nine locations in Mississippi, including in Starkville.
