Students in new school uniforms will be arriving at new times and following new class schedules once the school year begins in the Starkville School District, Aug. 5.
This is the first time Starkville public schools have required uniforms, an action the school board decided in late spring based on Superintendent Judy Couey”s recommendation.
Sudduth Elementary, which houses kindergarten through second grade, requires collared shirts in white, black or yellow. Black or khaki pants, shorts, skorts, skirts or capris are allowed.
Henderson Ward Stewart Elementary, which includes grades three through five, requires its students to wear black, gold or white collared shirts and black or khaki pants, shorts, skorts, skirts or capri pants.
Armstrong Middle School students in grades six through eight, must wear collared shirts in black, yellow or white. Black or khaki pants, shorts, skirts or capris are allowed.
Students at the high school must wear collared shirts of black, gray or white with black or khaki pants, shorts, skirts or capris.
The dress code requires belts be work with pants that have belt loops, and does not allow warm-up pants, wind pants, cargo pants or shorts with multiple large pockets, biking shorts, stretch pants, pajama bottoms or leggings as pants. Only students in kindergarten through fifth grade can wear denim, and then only in black or khaki colors.
Armstrong”s open house is Aug. 2, 5:30-7 p.m., with the Henderson Ward Stewart open house on Aug. 3., 4-6 p.m. Sudduth”s open house is Aug. 4, 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
