BOONEVILLE — The people have voted: No liquor in Booneville.
An effort to allow alcohol sales in the Prentiss County city was defeated during a vote on Tuesday. The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports that many residents are pleased with the outcome. Pastor Tracy Arnold of The Vineyard Church says selling alcohol wouldn”t help the community.
Supporters began working in April to gather the number of signatures needed on a petition to force a vote on the issue. Gary Walker spearheaded the petition drive supported by Citizens for New Business and Growth. Walker says the goal was to bring more economic opportunity to Booneville.
