A Caledonia deputy town marshal has resigned amid an investigation into an incident in which he was involved.
Caledonia’s board of aldermen accepted Lance Luckey’s letter of resignation Thursday during executive session. Mayor Mitch Wiggins, however, declined to comment on Luckey’s reasons, citing it was both a personnel matter and a subject of a law enforcement investigation. He also declined to comment on the specific incident being investigated, saying only that it is being investigated by Caledonia Town Marshals and Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.
Luckey, also a Columbus police officer who had worked part-time with the Caledonia marshal’s office for 12 years, was involved in a fight on May 11 between law enforcement officers from Caledonia, Lowndes County and Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and suspects on Lawrence Road Bridge. The incident followed a police chase through Caledonia and ended in Monroe County.
One suspect, 26-year-old Graham Pritchett of Hamilton, was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer for allegedly “exhibiting a fixed blade in a deadly manner” to Luckey, according to his arrest affidavit. Graham, who was charged with two other counts of assault on a police officer for allegedly hitting other officers who responded to the scene, was one of five suspects involved in the incident.
The suspect appeared to have bruises on his face in his Monroe County Jail booking photo taken shortly after the incident.
The incident was investigated by Caledonia marshals, LCSO and MCSO.
Luckey is still working for CPD.
Without Luckey, the Caledonia has a marshal and three deputies.
