The Starkville Police Department is searching for a group of women suspected of shoplifting at several businesses throughout the city.
The latest incident occurred Aug. 13 at Book Mart on Main Street. Two women and a child entered the store at about 4 p.m., while a third woman went into the Bully Shop portion of the business.
While the two women and the child meandered around one side of the store, the third woman hung out in the Bully Shop and then left, store manager Barbara Foster said.
A Book Mart employee followed the woman outside from the Bully Shop and made eye contact with her before the woman fled, Foster said.
Store employees looked at security tapes later and confirmed the woman in the Bully Shop stole about six shirts worth approximately $100.
Foster says she has talked with other merchants in town who reported seeing the same group of women in their stores.
“Just from talking to other merchants, they”ve been around,” Foster said. “We need to get these girls to stop stealing.”
Foster describes all three women as black and in their 20s. The child appeared to be 4 or 5 years old, Foster said.
One of the women was wearing a blue T-shirt, blue jeans and had her hair pulled back. The other woman was dressed more scantily and “left nothing to the imagination,” Foster said. She wore an open shirt with a black bra exposed, tight jean shorts and black high-heels, Foster said.
The woman who stole the items from the shop was wearing a “big red shirt,” Foster said.
