After being arrested for shoplifting merchandise, a Columbus man continued to fight law enforcement officers Saturday night.
Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies were called to Dollar General on Highway 182 east of Columbus after Antonio Lamar Conner, 29, shoplifted and left the facility. Deputies stopped the described vehicle and arrested Conner for the charge. They recovered stolen merchandise in Conner’s vehicle.
According to a press release, after Conner was detained he began hitting and kicking the deputy’s patrol car windows. Deputies brought Conner to the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center where Conner began kicking the deputy and correction officers.
“Conner proceeded to spit on deputies and correction officers while deputies were trying to escort him to a holding cell,” the press release said.
In addition to shoplifting, Conner is charged with three felony counts of simple assault on a law enforcement officer.
