A Columbus nurse has been charged with the felony abuse of a vulnerable person for allegedly burning someone in her care with an iron, the state attorney general”s office said.
Sherrill Culpepper, 53, was arraigned Friday in Lowndes County Circuit Court. She voluntarily turned herself in after learning she was wanted by the attorney general”s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
“It is alleged that Culpepper, while working as an LPN, willfully inflicted physical pain and injury upon a vulnerable person left in her care by heating a flat iron and putting it in contact with the vulnerable person”s skin,” according to a release from the attorney general”s office.
Culpepper was released on a $5,000 bond by Circuit Judge Lee Howard, who set her trial date for Nov. 15.
If convicted, Culpepper faces up to 20 years in prison, the attorney general”s office said.
