JACKSON – Mississippi lawmakers met in special session Friday and quickly approved a multimillion dollar incentive package for a company that plans to convert timber products into a crude oil substitute.
KiOR, a company based in Pasadena, Texas, is pledging to invest $500 million of its own money to build its first three processing plants in Mississippi.
Mississippi would give the company a $75 million loan.
Legislators also debated banning the sale or possession of synthetic marijuana and considered some local projects.
One bill would give DeSoto County some flexibility on where it builds a new jail.
Another bill would allow D”Iberville to lease land to private developers for a casino and other projects. Another would allow McComb residents vote on whether to set a tourism tax.
