The West Point Police Department is investigating why a West Point man stabbed his son and two women shortly before 1 a.m. Monday.
Edward Cox, 41, is in custody at the Clay County Jail facing two charges of aggravated assault-domestic violence and one count of aggravated assault.
Detective Mike Burgess, head of investigations with the WPPD, reported Monday Edward Cox stabbed Jaimarkuz Cox, 20, and Joshly Blair, 37, several times each with a knife at 611 Glendale Drive. He also cut Cheryl Jackson on the throat, but Burgess did not know the extent of Jackson”s injuries.
Cox then fled the scene of the attack and was tracked to the parking lot of the Huddle House restaurant on Highway 45 Alternate by officers with the WPPD, Clay County Sheriff”s Office and U.S. Marshals Service in Columbus. Cox was taken into custody without incident.
All three victims were transported to North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point. Blair and Jackson were later transported to NMMC-Tupelo. Their conditions are unknown. Jaimarkuz Cox was held at NMMC-West Point for observation and is scheduled to be discharged today.
Edward Cox faces arraignment in West Point Municipal Court today at 2 p.m.
