Columbus police found two pistols on a 22-year-old convicted felon early Wednesday after he fired shots, then ran from officers.
An officer patrolling the area heard gunshots at about 1:30 a.m. and responded to Peach Street and Fourth Avenue North.
Demetrius Burgin, of 39 Christopher Drive, fled the scene, dropping his jacket, a .22-caliber pistol and an ammunition clip.
He was found hiding behind parked cars at 305 22nd St. N. soon after. A Smith & Wesson 9 mm handgun was also found nearby
Bond has not been set for Burgin, who was charged Wednesday with being a felon in possession of a weapon.
Burgin, convicted of aggravated assault with a weapon in 2007, is the brother of Antonio Burgin, who was shot in the face during the armed robbery of an East Columbus convenience store Sept. 25.
Burgin and 20-year-old Quinton L. Erby are accused of robbing and shooting Hussein Fadahl Alhajjaji at his store, A&A Deli Food Mart at 227 N. McCrary Road.
Antonio Burgin, who was wounded by Alhajjaji, was listed Wednesday afternoon in stable condition at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
The Lowndes County Sheriff”s Office also reported the following felony arrests:
· Charles A. Lindsey, 23, of 1501 Third Ave. N., was arrested near his residence by Columbus police Sept. 29. Lindsey, whose court date is set for Wednesday, was charged with driving without a license, violation of seat belt laws, and possession of an illegal substance with intent to distribute.
· Warren Dickerson, 55, of 1514 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, was arrested at his residence by sheriff”s deputies Sept. 29. He is charged with sale of cocaine.
· Jessica L. Howard, 21, of 226 Christ Circle, was arrested at Jumbo”s convenience store in East Columbus by city police Sept. 29. She was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday to face a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
· William G. Duncan, 17, of 895 Richardson Road, turned himself in to sheriff”s deputies Sept. 29. Duncan, who is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 11, was charged with grand larceny of more than $500.
· Carol Malone, 45, of 330 Lodge St. in Crawford, was arrested at the Crawford farmer”s market Sept. 30 by sheriff”s deputies. He was charged with consuming alcoholic beverages on city property and two counts of uttering forgery.
· Quontarious D. McClinton, 22, of 106 Robin St., was arrested Friday at the intersection of 15th Street and Eighth Avenue North by Columbus police. The defendant, whose court date is set for Oct. 20, was charged with disturbance of family, contempt of court, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine and three counts of sale of cocaine.
· Taquanda M. Hooks, 20, of 1923 College Street, was arrested at the Kmart on Highway 45 North by Columbus police. Hooks, whose court date is set for Nov. 18, was charged with robbery and giving false information.
