A Starkville man wanted for a Monday drive-by shooting on the north side of town surrendered to police Tuesday and was charged with aggravated assault.
Officers from the Starkville Police Department responded to a report of shots fired Monday at 5 p.m. at the intersection of Peoples Street and Highland Street, just east of Reed Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered a black Buick Roadmaster was damaged by what appeared to be shots fired from a small caliber handgun.
A 30-year-old black male, whom police have not identified, was shot in the lower jaw during the attack, the SPD said in a statement. He was treated overnight and released from OCH Regional Medical Center.
Witnesses advised responding officers a silver vehicle had pulled up next to the Buick and a black male wearing dreadlocks, a black T-shirt and white shorts began to shoot into the Roadmaster.
Throughout the course of the investigation, police named 22-year-old Quincy Lamichael Brownlee, of 1688 Bennett Drive, as a suspect in the shooting. Brownlee turned himself in to police Tuesday morning without incident and was charged with aggravated assault.
Anyone with information on the shooting can call the Starkville Police Department at 662-323-4131 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
