Two men were suffered minor injuries after crashing their car Tuesday during a high-speed chase through downtown Columbus.
Police officers tried to pull over a gold Honda Accord on Ninth Street South at about 2:20 p.m., but its 33-year-old driver, Tavares Sanders, of 1218 Fourth St. S., refused to stop.
Instead, he sped away at about 90 mph, leaving behind officers, who never exceeded about 40 mph, said police Public Information Officer Terrie Songer.
Sanders and his 40-year-old passenger, Brett Thomas, of 407 Ave. A, crashed at Ninth Street and 12th Avenue South.
Sanders tried to flee on foot but was caught about 250 yards from the crash scene, said police Cpl. Donnie Elkin.
Both defendants were taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, where they were treated for crash-related injuries and released.
Sanders was charged with disturbing the peace and driving with a suspended license, Elkin said. Additional charges, including drug-related charges, are pending.
Thomas was not charged, Elkin said.
Sanders was also in the hospital in August, when he was stabbed by his 24-year-old cousin, Brandon Sanders, near the M&M Grocery on Fourth Street.
