An Oktibbeha County woman was killed in an early-morning fire today just south of Maben, an emergency official said.
The fire began around 6:30 a.m. in a trailer at 2040 Maben-Sturgis Road, about 1/2 mile south of Highway 82, Oktibbeha County Fire Services Coordinator Kirk Rosenhan said. The blaze was extinguished as of 8:30 a.m., Rosenhan said, but a woman was dead inside.
The Oktibbeha County Sheriff”s Office is expected to release the identity of the victim, whom Rosenhan only described as a white female, later today, he said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The victim”s trailer received “quite a bit” of damage in the blaze, but did not burn to the ground, Rosenhan said.
Firefighters from Maben and Mathiston responded. Fire marshals and a funeral home also were on the scene this morning, Rosenhan said.
The woman appeared to have been home by herself, Rosenhan said. No other injuries were reported.
