The next step in the process of revamping the Columbus-Lowndes Convention and Visitors Bureau board is on tap for Tuesday night.
City Attorney Jeff Turnage will present the Columbus City Council with a proposed amendment to the existing ordinance which permanently reduces the total number of CVB board members to six, per state law. This comes after the Lowndes County Board of Supervisors agreed to contract the board to six, but voted to petition the state Legislature to expand the board to nine members.
The council also voted to appoint its three members at-large while the supervisors opted to keep two industry-specific appointments and one at-large member.
Turnage said the council will decide whether to cut one of its existing CVB board members or vacate all of its appointments and take new applications.
The council will also take up a recommendation from new city judges Marc Amos and Nicole Clinkscales to appoint a city prosecutor, and consider the planning commission”s recommendation to grant the opening of a pool hall in a neighborhood commercial district on Seventh Avenue North.
