Chefs from some of the Golden Triangle”s most popular restaurants will converge on the newly renovated State Theatre next weekend for the Starkville Young Professionals” fourth annual Souper Bowl cook-off.
As of Monday afternoon, 10 restaurants had registered to compete in the Souper Bowl event, set to take place Feb. 5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Chefs from each restaurant will fix soup, then the public will taste samples and vote for the best.
The event will preclude the start of the Mississippi State University basketball team”s matchup against Louisiana State University at 3 p.m. in Baton Rouge, La. The game will be shown at the State Theatre.
Starkville Young Professionals President Robyn Cain said she is excited about the event.
“Where else can you go and try soup from all these different restaurants, watch basketball and hang out with your friends?” Cain said.
Proceeds from the event go to the United Way of North Central Mississippi. Last year, Souper Bowl patrons raised approximately $5,000 for the United Way.
“The Souper Bowl is a unique event where people of all ages can socialize and just have a good time,” United Way Executive Director Nikki Rives said. “The atmosphere is great and everyone has an opportunity to taste great soups from our local restaurants. It”s a wonderful way to spend an afternoon and to help the citizens of our community through United Way.”
Tickets can be purchased prior to the event for $15 at the Greater Starkville Development Partnership office, located at the corner of Main Street and South Lafayette Street in downtown Starkville. Tickets at the door cost $20. Kids 12 and under get in for $5, while children under 3 can attend for free.
Restaurants can still register for the event by contacting Cain at 662-323-3322 or [email protected]. Businesses interested in sponsoring the event can contact Jackie Hudson at 662-325-4214 or [email protected].
The State Theatre is located on Main Street in downtown Starkville.
