Mrs. Olene Dawkins Chain, age 81, died Friday, November 29, 2013, at her home in Columbus. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be Sunday, December 1, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Memorial Chapel with Rev. Oscar Maddox officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The daughter of the late Vester and Vera Dawkins, Mrs. Chain was born April 1, 1932, in the Shady Grove community in Winston County, MS. A resident of Columbus since 1951, she was employed briefly at Seminole Manufacturing. Later she operated the family business Chainís Grocery for many years and retired in 2003 as owner/proprietor of the Ann-Lee Motel. She was a member of Calvary Assembly of God in Columbus. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, JC Chain; and grandson, David Chain. Mrs. Chain is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Brenda Edwards, Anthony Chain and his companion Michelle Poteet, and James and Barbara Chain, all of Columbus and Mike and Brenda Chain of Reform, AL. She is also survived by her sisters, Louise Stewart-Edwards of Crawford, MS and Lucille Dawkins of Columbus; six grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be William Edwards, III, Brooks Swink, Cody Swink, Dustin King, Mark Chain and Jason Chain. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Legacy Hospice of the South, Chainís Logging, and Jeffrey Britt, NP.
