COLUMBUS — Bennie Will Sherrod, 76, died Nov. 22, 2014, at his residence. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Northside MB Church with the Rev. Bobby Woodrick officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery. Visitation is today from noon-6 p.m. at Carter’s Funeral Services of Columbus. Mr. Sherrod was born in Lowndes County on Feb. 23, 1938, to the late Bennie Sherrod Sr. and Suzanna McCoy. He was a member of 6th Ave. MB Church and formerly employed as a truck driver with Greenlawn Trucking. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Shirley McCoy, Robert Sherrod and Freddie McCoy. He is survived by his wife, Ollie Sledge Sherrod of Columbus; children, Ruby Redmond, Yvonne Jones, Linda Easley, William Sherrod, Willie Bankhead, Frank Sledge Jr. and Terry Sledge, all of Columbus, Cynthia Barnes of Aliceville, Alabama, Joe Sledge of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Fredrick Anthony Sledge of Lawton, Oklahoma and Susie M. Sledge of Memphis, Tennessee; siblings, Annie Williams and Willie McCoy, both of Columbus; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; and six step great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are William Sherrod, Tyler Smith, Darrell Jones, Brecke Redmond, Frank Sledge, Anthony Eddins, Willie Bankhead and Joe Sledge.
