RIDGELAND — Emmett Haley Hood Jr., 90, died March 27, 2015, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church in Madison with the Rev. Gates Elliott and the Rev. Ben Robertson officiating. Burial and graveside services will follow 4 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Cemetery in West Point. Visitation is today from 2-4 p.m. at Calvert Funeral Home in West Point and from 6-8 p.m. Monday at The Reverend David Christian Parish Hall in the chapel of the church. Mr. Hood was born March 2, 1925, in Rome to the late Emmett Haley and Martha Elizabeth Stroud Hood Sr. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and graduated from Delta State University. He was formerly employed as a teacher and with the U.S.D.A. as a county manager for the agriculture department. He was a member of First Christian Church in West Point and later a member of Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jeanne Shotwell Hood; sisters, Martha Elaine Hood Whitehead and Octavia Hood Thompson. He is survived by his daughters, Dianne Johnson of Senatobia, Susan DiBona of St. Petersburg, Florida, Marcie Rackley of Starkville, Lynne Shope of West Point and Ruby Medlin of Ridgeland; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
