WEST POINT — Joe Louis James, 78, died July 1, 2015, at his residence. Services are 11 a.m. tomorrow at Third Mt. Olive MB Church in West Point with the Rev. Al Lathan, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation is 3-6 p.m. today at Carter’s Mortuary Services. Mr. James was born in Oktibbeha County on Sept. 10, 1936, to the late Early James and Lucille James. He was formerly employed as a butcher at Bryan Foods. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Erlean James; brothers, Melvin James, Eddie James, Henry James; sisters; Marlene Kirkwood, Queen Annie Gaines, Mary Gardner, Mammie King and Gertrude Harris. He is survived by his wife, Willie Mae James; sons, Stan Mathews, Clyde Mathews; daughters, Patricia James, Dorothy James, Ruth Williams, Gavis Mosley; 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
