Thomas Donald “Don” Savely, Sr. 82 of Columbus, MS passed away Monday, February 1, 2016, at Windsor Nursing Home, Columbus, MS. Visitation will be Saturday, February 6, 2016, from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Woodland Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Bro. Shelby Hazzard officiating. Interment will be in Millport City Cemetery, Millport, AL with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Mr. Savely was born December 28, 1933, to the late Thomas Scott and Mary Elizabeth Hodo Savely in Millport, AL. He was an outstanding athlete at Millport High School and was later inducted into the Millport High School Sports Hall of Fame. He attended the University of Alabama and received his bachelor’s degree from Livingston University. He was a lifelong fan of Mississippi State University because his father played football there. Mr. Savely was a member of Woodland Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. He was co-owner of O.K. Tire Center, Columbus, MS in the late 1950’s. Mr. Savely went to work for Water’s Truck and Tractor in 1963 and spent the rest of his career at Waters selling International trucks. He retired after 50 years of service with Waters. In addition to his parents, Mr. Savely was preceded in death by his wife – Nancy Lee Pryor Savely and 2 sisters – Eugenia Hamilton and Scottie Smith. Mr. Savely is survived by his sons – Keith (Jill) Savely, Columbus, MS, Scott Savely, Austin, TX and Donnie Savely, Columbus, MS; daughter – Sherry (Charlie) Kinard, Katy, TX; 5 grandchildren and brother in law – Charlie Smith, Tuscaloosa, AL. Pallbearers will be Zach Thomas, Jake Thomas, Cade Kinard, Kerby Kinard, Mike Waters and Tommy Hunt; honorary pallbearers will be M. L. Waters, David Waters, Tommy Eskridge, Former and present employees of Waters Truck and Tractor, Woodland Baptist Church Senior Adult Men’s Sunday School Class, Ed Allen, Deloy Cannon, and Jake Cole.
