Kermit Curtis Threet age 86 died Friday, May 20, 2016 at The Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford MS. Services were held Monday, May 23, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Webb officiating, burial with U.S. Air Force Honors, followed at Memorial Gardens of Columbus. Mr. Threet was born on Friday, August 30, 1929 in Dossville, MS to the late Nathan Lester and Myrtle Horne Threet. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, and a retired Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He served from 1949 to 1970. This service included duty in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and assignments with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, as a Crew Chief on the RB-47 and as a Flight Engineer on the C-130. During his 21 years of service to this Nation, he served in the Strategic Air Command, Tactical Air Command and Air Training Command in various locations around the world. After retirement Mr. Threet had many jobs, but he is best remembered from his years managing Shirley”s “Minit” Mart, one of Columbus’ first convenience stores. Before there was “7-11”, there was Shirley’s. Mr. Threet loved to build things, to fix things and most of all he loved the Lord. He spent much of his later years volunteering his time and talents to helping others and serving his church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandson Bailey Threet. Columbus, MS; Daughters: Elizabeth Freeman (Sidney), Olive Branch, MS, Sandra McBrayer (John), Birmingham, AL; Sons: Kermit Threet, Jr. (Julie), Nashville, TN, Randy Threet, Colorado Springs, CO; Sister: Janice Stanton, Columbus, MS; Brother: James Culley Threet, Memphis, TN; Grandchildren: Scott Nunley (Michelle), Brooke Freeman, David McBrayer (Catharine), Daniel McBrayer, Adam McBrayer, Kimberly Sparaco (Frank), Brian Threet (April), Hunter Threet, Brandon Threet; 10 Great Grandchildren; Step-Daughters: Alice Hemby, Columbus, MS, Pamela J. Valentine (Garrett) Olmstead, IL; Step-Son: Davis P. Harper, Jr. West Point, MS; Serving as pallbearers were: Scott Nunley, David McBrayer, Daniel McBrayer, Adam McBrayer, Brian Threet, and Drew Stanton.
