MACON — Tommie J. Verdell, 64, died June 18, 2017, at Noxubee General Hospital. Services are noon Saturday at the Noxubee High School Gymnasium in Macon. Burial will be at Memorial Garden Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 2-6 p.m. at St. John Full Gospel Church in Macon. Beck Funeral Home in Louisville is entrusted with arrangements. Mr. Verdell was born Aug. 4, 1952, in Columbus to the late John L. Smart and Mary L. Verdell. He was a pastor for St. John Full Gospel Church in Macon. He was preceded in death by his father, John L. Smart; and brother, Benard Fields. He is survived by his wife, Mattie R. Verdell; children, Ken Orr, Yvonne Dancy, Tommie Verdell Jr., Christopher Verdell, Shmeka Verdell, Diesha Verdell, Nicole Verdell and Lakeshia Verdell; mother, Mary L. Sanders; brothers, Earnest Porter, Theodus Porter, John L. Sanders, Andrew Sanders, Bobby L. Sanders, Cleo Sanders, John W. Sanders, John Smart Jr., Howard Smart, Dennis Smart, Bobby Smart, Claude Smart, David Smart, Edward Fields, Carlton Fields, Alexander Fields, Jimmie Fields, Jimmy Sherrod and Allen Smith; sisters, Annie L. Thomas, Mariah Phinizee, Samella Bridges, Mildred Coleman, Janette Coleman, Diane Anthony, Patricia Love, Shirley Staten, Eunice Morris, Joann Fields, Gracie Oneal, Elizabeth Terry, Angela Dora and Lashelia Harris; 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
