Loran Malone

Loran “Pat” E. Malone, 87, passed away peacefully Friday, October 6, 2017, in Columbus, MS. Pat was born March 13, 1930, to Otis and Flora May (Hungerford) Malone in Oblong, Illinois, the youngest of 9 children. He graduated from Oblong High School in 1947. Pat proudly served in the Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam wars, and with NASA as a secure communications specialist. His assignments included the Pentagon and several overseas tours. SMSGT Malone retired from the Air Force in 1969. Pat then joined the Golden Triangle Airport fire and rescue team until 1989. He met and married Etta Styles Malone in 1986. Pat was an avid fisherman and gardener, he was active with the VFW and American Legion. Pat is survived by his daughter, Janet (Patrick) Riordan of Columbus, MS; son-in-law- John Pryor of Lebanon, PA; grandchildren, Joshua Lamb, Loran Pryor Daniels, Ryan Riordan, Corie Pryor, and Sean Riordan, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and Marie Malone. Pat was preceded in death by his parents, wife Etta, daughters Lori and Ginger Pryor, siblings, and his beloved Scooter. The family will greet friends at a Celebration of Pat’s Life on Sunday, October 29, 2017, at the Columbus VFW Post 4272 (2850 7th Ave. N., Columbus, MS) from 2:00 until 5:00 PM. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kosciusko Veterans Home, The Camelia Hospice or the Disabled American Veterans.
