STARKVILLE — Ruth Stewart died Jan. 2, 2018, at her residence. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Starkville. Burial will be in Memorial Garden Park Cemetery in Starkville. Visitation is Thursday from noon-2 p.m. at the church. Welch Funeral Home of Starkville is in charge of arrangements. Ms. Stewart was born Aug. 12, 1936. She was employed with for Lela’s Flowers and was the former owner of Stewart’s Town and Campus Florist. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Fred Merritt and Miriam Pitner Merritt Bullock; and sister, Betty Ajax Akers. She is survived by husband, Joe W. Stewart; sons, Joe W. Stewart Jr. and Fred Stewart of Starkville; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Cody Fisher, Bobby Crosland, Sid Crigler, Richard Rast, Coleman Crigler and Andrew Dunaway. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Starkville, P.O. Box 2585, Starkville, MS 39760.
