COLUMBUS ó Sam Congress Jr., 76, died Jan. 30, 2018, at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Reform Temple Church of God In Christ with Jessie L. Hutton officiating. Burial will follow at Moscow Providence Baptist Church. Visitation will be today from 3-8 p.m. at Carterís of Columbus. Mr. Congress was born in Demopolis, Alabama on Oct. 23, 1941, to the late Sam Congress Sr. and Virginia Congress. He was formerly employed as a truck driver and was a member of Reform Temple Church of God In Christ. He formerly served as a deacon and received an associate degree from Tuskegee Institute in business. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children, Sammy Lee Congress and Mary Louise Congress; and siblings, Charlie Triggs Congress, Allen Congress, Henry Congress, Deotha C. Bruno and Mamie Clayton. He is survived by his wife, Petty Latham Congress of Columbus; children, Asheley Gipson Topps, Denise Congress of Columbus, Iris Boggan of Tuskegee, Alabama, Quincy Congress of Columbus, Elder James Congress, Rob Sanders of Demopolis, Alabama and Allen Harris of Houston, Texas; siblings, Mary Congress and Lorena C. Killings of Cleveland, Ohio; 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Kenny Bonner, Gregory Cameron, Jakode Shelton, Justin Neal, Robert Jefferson, Chris Jones, Justin Jones and Kenny Bonner Jr.
