STARKVILLE — Dorothy Jean Mann Thomas, 82, died Mar. 9, 2018, at her residence. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Starkville. Visitation is from 1:30-3:30 p.m. today and two hours prior to services. Welch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Thomas was born Oct. 27, 1935, in Lee County, to the late John Mann and Ruth Cole Mann. She was co-owner of Thomas’ Ladies’ Apparel, President of the Starkville Downtown Business Association and member of the Starkville Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of First Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Thomas; one sister, Emily Hurley; and two brothers, Billy Mann and Jimmy Mann. She is survived by her children, James Earl Thomas, Jeanne Carol Shivers and Mary Ruth Henderson, all of Atlanta, Georgia, and John Thomas of Starkville; six sisters, Laura Harris of Saltillo, Carolyn Wiley of Amory, Sarah Timms of Tupelo, Shirley Williams of Verona, Linda Broom of Pascagoula and Judy Newell of Charlotte, North Carolina; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Children’s Building Fund at First Baptist Church of Starkville, St. Jude’s Children Hospital or the First Baptist Church of Sandy Springs, Georgia.
