Dr. Charles Oliver “Charlie” Stanback, age 83, died Monday, February 4, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Columbus. Services were held Thursday, February 7, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ron Thomas officiating. Burial followed at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation was held at Memorial Funeral Home Wednesday, February 6, 2013, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Dr. Stanback was born on Sunday, April 28, 1929, in Byhalia, MS to the late William Presley and Josephine Walker Stanback. He completed his undergraduate work at the University of Mississippi and continued his postgraduate work at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS. He started practicing medicine in Columbus, MS in 1964 as a general practitioner and obstetrician. He was known as being very compassionate and dedicated to his patients throughout his entire career. Dr. Stanback was very active in Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship and he was very involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Charles William (Bubba) Stanback; and his brother, Bill Stanback. Survivors include his wife, Martha J. Stanback, Columbus MS; daughter, Janet Stanback, Richmond, VA; sons, Brad Stanback (Voula), Columbus, MS and Dr. John Stanback (Courtney), Columbus, MS; sisters, Mary Ann Wilson, Byhalia, MS and Josephine Jones, Byhalia, MS; daughter-in-law, Cecile Reeves Stanback, Monticello, MS; grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Stanback, Charles William Stanback, Jr., Philip Reeves Stanback, Sara Elizabeth Austin, Kathryn Elizabeth Stanback, Charles William Austin, James Robert Austin, Rachel Claire Stanback, John Neil Stanback, Charles Bradley Stanback. Serving as pallbearers were Will Stanback, Philip Stanback, John Neil Stanback, Jason Pounders, Charles Bradley Stanback, Alex Nettles, and Jamie Austin.
