OBITUARY
Mary Downey
owney, 80, died Feb. 18, 2013, at Shoals Hospital in Muscle Shoals, Ala. Services are Friday 11 a.m. in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church of Starkville with the Revs. David Shumaker and Dr. Tom Woodard officiating. Burial will follow in Oddfellows Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 9 a.m. until service time at the church. Welch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Ms. Downey was Professor Emerita from Mississippi State University, having served as a librarian at Mitchell Memorial Library for most of her career. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was an active member of the Wesley Sunday School Class. She was a graduate of M.S.C.W. and received her master’s degree from Mississippi State University. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert R. Barwick and Julia Louise Turman. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Guyton of Starkville, and Marcia Thomas of Florence, Ala.; son, Raymond Downey of Liberty, Mo.; sisters, Martha Irby and Ann O’Reilly, both of Starkville; and five grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Starkville
