Minnie Lester Lang McCrary, age 90, of Columbus, MS passed away on Friday, March 29, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital–Golden Triangle. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 2, 2013, from 10–11 AM at Wesley United Methodist Church, Columbus, MS. A memorial service will follow at 11 AM in the church sanctuary with Rev. Diane Lemmon officiating and Rev. Steve Brown assisting. Mrs. McCrary was born on December 16, 1922, in Columbus, MS to the late Conroe Lester Lang and Minnie Lou Adams Lang. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Thomas McCrary; her son, Tommy “Tub” McCrary; and sisters, Elizabeth Stephens and Annie Louis King. Mrs. McCrary attended MSCW in 1940–1944, earning a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and bacteriology. She returned to the “W” and received another bachelor’s degree in nursing and graduated cum laude in 1975. Mrs. McCrary served as the first social activities director at Trinity Place Retirement Community in 1979 and served in this capacity for twenty years. The McCrarys were charter members of Wesley United Methodist Church, which was organized in 1956. She remained actively involved in teaching Sunday School and sang in the choir for over forty years. Mrs. McCrary is survived by her daughters, Ellen (Roger) Lovick, Ann Sims, and Jamie Price (Tom Merchant); and daughter-in-law, Annette McCrary. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Brian (Darrie) Price, Jason (Lindsay) Price, Amber McCrary, and Anna McCrary; and four great-grandchildren, McCanna Price, Tripp Price, Marin Price, and Power Price; and several nieces and nephews. All of Mrs. McCrary’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren reside in Columbus, MS. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Collegeview Personal Care Home, Linda Craddieth, Cassie Neal, and Baptist Hospice for providing such loving care in their time of need. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 511 Airline Road, Columbus, MS 39702.
