Mr. Edward Lavern Cowart, 73, of Columbus, MS passed away, Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital–Golden Triangle, Columbus, MS. Visitation for Mr. Cowart will be Wednesday, April 3, 2013, from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm at Lowndes Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 pm with Dr. Shawn Parker officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Mr. Cowart was born March 21, 1940, to the late Lester and Mary Alice Robinson Cowart in Pickens County, AL. He moved to Columbus 30 years ago from Carrollton, AL. Mr. Cowart retired in 2002 from Ceco Buildings as a welder after 40+ years and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed sports, especially Alabama football, car racing and riding 4 wheelers. Mr. Cowart loved spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Cowart is survived by his wife of 48 years, Faye Oglesby Cowart, Columbus, MS; son, Edward Lavern “Vern” (Menissia) Cowart, Caledonia, MS; sisters, Betty Jourdan, Lofton Peeks, Sue Plyman and Deline Brown; brothers, Owen Cowart, Fred Cowart and Tommy Cowart; and grandchildren, Chad Cowart and Madeline Cowart. Pallbearers will be Wayne Parker, Bobby Cowart, Michael Oglesby, Jeff Oglesby, Terry Jourdon and Ronnie Shaw. Honorary pallbearers will be the Baptist Hospice Staff and 3rd Floor Nurses at Baptist–Golden Triangle. Memorials may be made to Because He Lives, c/o First Baptist Church, P.O.
