Lois Catherine Pennington, 72, of Columbus, MS, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2013, at her residence. Mrs. Pennington was born January 15, 1941, in Florence, AL, to the late John and Toy Mae Lard. She worked at McCoy Manufacturing in Caledonia, MS, and Coca-Cola Bottling in Columbus, MS, before obtaining her cosmetology license at Vaughn’s Beauty College in Aberdeen, MS. After working at several local salons, she owned and operated Styles Unlimited in Gateway Shopping Center and adjacent to Shipley’s Donuts for many years. She later retired from Walmart in Columbus. Mrs. Pennington was preceded in death by her husbands, Gayner Palmer and Don Pennington; brothers, Edward “Dick” Lard and Larry McMullen; and sisters, Donna Hines and Janice Mize. Mrs. Pennington is survived by her three daughters, Trudy (Ray) Cook and Donna Maloney of Columbus, MS, and Sherry (Arl) Taylor of Caledonia, MS; five grandchildren, Michael (Lauren) Maloney of McKinney, TX, Raye Ann (Wes) Carlisle of Columbus, MS, Megan (Scott) McKinnie of Brandon, MS and Zac Taylor and Eli Taylor of Caledonia, MS; and two great-grandchildren, Colin Maloney of McKinney, TX and Rayleigh Carlisle of Columbus, MS. Additionally, she is survived by five stepchildren, Wanda (Brian) Cahill of Mexico Beach, FL, Glenn (Annemarie) Palmer of Starkville, MS, Debra (Doug) George of Columbus, MS, Gary (P.J.) Jacobs, Jr., and Robbie (Tammy) Jacobs of Caledonia, MS; brothers, John Lard, Jr., of Florence, AL, Dennis Lard of Cloverdale, AL and Jerry Lard of Arges, IN; and six sisters, Gail Pigg and Jackie Lard of Florence, AL, Regina Lard, Pat Lard, and Bonnie Lard of Huntsville, AL, and Cheryl Young of Cloverdale, AL. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Final arrangements are being handled by Gunter and Peel Funeral Home of Columbus, MS. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
