Anne Burkart: Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood tries to hide behind the pious pose of ''providing health care for women''. Here is the truth about the sort of health care they really practice, as detailed fully in the Washington Examiner:... "it (Planned Parenthood) performed 332,278 abortions in 2009, while serving 7,021 prenatal clients and referring 977 parents to adoption services."

Providing abortions for all who find babies inconvenient is the politically incorrect way to tell the truth about the single biggest killer of innocent life in the history of our nation. President Obama drew the line at defunding Planned Parenthood.

He was going to shut down the government and refused to exempt the salaries of military men and women if the Republicans defunded Planned Parenthood.  President Obama has a long history of going after babies.  He is famous for voting ''present'' most of his life in politics; but he cast one of his rare votes to ensure that any baby who escaped being killed by an abortion attempt would not survive for long. President Obama voted to withhold even a tender hug, a warm blanket or any gesture other a violent one to the baby survivor.  Anyone who is like President Obama and desires taxpayers to pay for the killing of unborn babies will answer for their hard hearts in the end.

It makes sense to eliminate the ability of Planned Parenthood to provide services to 11 million clients just because a third of a million want an abortion? I guess it does if you don't think that providing contraception to 4 million people trying to act responsibly and NOT get pregnant when they don't want a baby is important. I guess it does if you aren't interested in helping 4 million spread sexually transmitted diseases. i guess it does if you aren't interested in 1.7 million women getting help preventing or checking for cancer.

Brilliant tradeoffs for people so concerned with the value of human life.

Where are you statistics for how many annual exams, STI checks and treatments, vaginal cancer screenings and biopsies, and Rape and Physical Abuse intervention and counseling? Guess those numbers were conveniently left off of this "news report".

Since the Republicans voted to pull the plug on federal spending for Planned Parenthood two months ago, private donations have gone-up 500%. One in three women will have an abortion by the time they reach 45 years of age. Jon Kyle (Republican) said that over 90% of Planned Parenthood funds go to pay for abortions. When confronted and told that only 3% went for abortions, he said he didn't mean for it to be "FACTUAL." That's the kind of idiots that President Obama has to deal with almost everyday

Gee hope, you mean like the idiots who told the American people they had VOTE for the bill before they could READ it and see what was in it? The Republicans have no lock on "idiotic statements".

Article Comment raider commented at 4/13/2011 4:18:00 PM:

If Ms. Burkart wanted to tell the truth she would have mentioned that planned parenthood is already barred from using tax funds to pay for abortion. Therefore, tax payers will not have to answer for thier "hard hearts." Planned Parenthood is the provider of many services for low income americans and provide invaluable services and abortions are a small part of those services. However, through a sustained demonization campaign, the republican party have convinced feeble minded folks that Planned Parenthood must be shut down. This budget battle came down to simple politics. Republicans was more interested in thier political agenda than they were in producing jobs. Ms. Burkart argument is a continuation of the republican political lie and design to mislead the uninformed. I would suggest that you not listen to the BS and quit watching FAUX News.

@Anne: President Obama has a long history of going after babies. The Supreme court ruled that abortion was legal 39 years ago. Back then, he was barely old enough to make babies, much less going after them.

I don't see how a political party can say "we don't want these types of women's services" and in the same breath say "we don't want appropriate and effective sex education being taught in our schools". You can't have it both ways. I do not morally agree with abortion, but I also do not like seeing the issue used for political game playing. What if, instead of this never-ending argument on the legality of abortion, we try to truly educate our nation on the risks of sex and the tolls/expenses of having children? What if we work on preventing these unwanted pregnancies in the first place? Maybe we can help women before they get themselves in a tough situation, instead of after they are in the thick of it.

@kj haha, i love how liberals bring up statistics about how planned parenthood only kills a few babies. if you kill one baby, you're a murderer, plain as day. if you use tax payers to keep a baby murder mill open, you're using tax payer dollars for murdering babies. Call them a fetus all you want if it makes you feel better. Please, go watch an abortion, there are plenty on youtube, i doubt you have the stomach for the "operation".

@ppistheonlyplaceicanaffordanannualexam there are tons of videos of planned parenthood employees encouraging 14 year old rape victims to go to different states to bypass laws that require Planned parenthood to notify the authorities in cases of child abuse. yes, planned parenthood is such a great, altruistic organization. they certainly want to protect children, not kill babies. (sarcasm). and if planned parenthood is the only place you can go to afford an exam, it really sounds like you messed up in life. quit leaching off the american tax payers and go do something with your life.

Planned parenthood was founded by Margaret Sanger, a eugenicist who wanted to sterilize as many black people as possible. Abortion often sterilizes a women. Planned parenthood provides over 35% of its abortions on african americans and set up many of their abortion factories in low income residences to get rid of these "undesirables".
Abortion is the leading cause of death for blacks.

Do your homework liberals. Quit supporting these racist enterprises while hiding behind your intellectual elitism.

dz, lets be realistic, what person in our nation DOESN'T know the dangers in having sex? I mean COME ON, do you REALLY think there are people out there who DON'T know you can get pregnant or catch a disease from unprotected sex? As for teaching sex in school, which BRAND do you teach? Cause it seems that people are not against teaching the BIOLOGY of sex, its the MORAL grounds that are different.

And NO ONE is saying that women should not HAVE certain services, just that maybe they should have to pay for some of them themselves. Because we, as a country, are BROKE, and making sure that a woman who DOESN'T work, and pays NOTHING into the system, and CONTINUALLY takes resources FROM the system needs to GO.

@plasticdeath: Did you know that generalizing a group of people, like "liberals", is considered prejudice? And, my response to you, mister ignorant bigot, is to do your own homework. PP can't pay for abortions with taxpayer dollars. It's illegal.

@zenreaper: ...are you serious? You think that everybody knows the dangers of sex? You must be the most sheltered person in the world. There are countless instances of teenagers getting pregnant due to failure of sex education and lack of knowledge about contraception. Get your head out of the ground.
Also, PP isn't allowed to use taxpayer dollars to fund abortions. So they DO pay for it themselves. It's the other 97% of services, like cancer screenings, that we pay for. And I'm okay with that.

And to ANYONE reading this, do a little research, and you will learn that the prohibition of abortion does not actually stop abortions, nor does the lack of funding. Instead, pregnant women will simply turn to illegal, dangerous abortions, at the SAME rate as they would otherwise seek out legal abortions. So basically, you aren't trying to stop abortions, you're just trying to kill women.

" if you use tax payers to keep a baby murder mill open, you're using tax payer dollars for murdering babies."

Actually, a lot of republicans reject that argument when liberals apply it to the giving of tax dollars to the Boy Scouts. Oh no, they say, funding BSA school programs that aren't allowed to discriminate on the basis of religion or sexual orientation isn't back-door funding of discrimination or religion.

Which leads us to the great truth about the current republican attempt to sabotage Planned Parenthood: abortion funding has almost nothing to do with this latest attempt to sabotage Planned Parenthood. It has nearly everything to do with denying funding for medical services to poor people.

Abortion in the U.S. currently has restrictions that most people find reasonable. It's implementation beyond those restrictions is relatively rare.

Dude222, if you think teenagers are getting pregnant because they don't KNOW about contraceptives, you are the sheltered one. They get pregnant because, in the heat of the moment, they don't want to USE contraceptives. And part of the problem is the refusal to hold people accountable for their choices. Get pregnant? Have an abortion. Decide to keep the baby? The state will pay you monthly to NOT work, pay the medical bills, provide you with formula and diapers, and whatever the STATE doesn't provide, you can pick up from the local churches. When we stop glorifying teenage parents, and may them PAY, in hard work and sacrifice, we will see a reduction in teen pregnancy.

Like the man said the other day... "Who plans for parenthood? A girl comes over, you have a few wine coolers, one thing leads to another, and before you know it you're a parent."

It was also mentioned you could get Pap Smears and Breast Exams at Walgreens. I think they are between the foot powder and the mixed nuts.

@Dude222 I guess you have problems reading, because I stated that if you use taxpayer dollars to keep the lights on for an abortion mill, you're using tax payer dollars to facilitate abortions. I know its hard, but try to keep up. And for the generalizations, lulz, I think its funny that liberals have to resort to accusations of bigotry or racism when they don't have anything intellectual to say. You sir, are retarded.

@Anne:This is one abortion Pro-Life Bush should have performed was the illegitimate (lying) Iraq war, which would have saved thousands of lives and thousands more people from having missing body parts for the rest of their lives. The mother of all blunders!
