Just watched WCBI News at 6 & heard about the new laws taking effect 1 July 2011, and wondering how stupid the law makers can be. Yes, I said stupid. A new law passed that it''s a felony to mistreat animals. What are they thinking? I do not condone hurting animals BUT, why isn''t it a felony to abort a baby? A baby is a human life & should not be killed. Yes, I am a Christian & do not believe in abortion. seems to me this country is going straight down the toilet & all that''s needed is a flush to finish it off. Go ahead readers & say something about me not being patriotic. Wrong again, I''m retired Air Force & did time in Vietnam. Back to the law about animals. If we would get back to what this country was founded on, In God We Trust & One Nation Under God, laws against abortion would be the same as laws against hurting animals. Thank you.

Studies have shown that people who harm and abuse animals are more likely to harm and abuse other people. Especially if they start off abusing animals as children. This is not a stupid law.

There are already laws against abortion, especially late term abortions after the fetus is viable. There are also laws that allow for charging people for causing the death of fetus. The premise of your letter is false.
Additionally, the nation wasn't founded on "In God We Trust" (added to coins in 1864, adopted as our national motto in 1956 and added to currency in 1957) or "One Nation Under God" (added to the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954). Our country was founded by people fleeing oppressive state religion who took great care to create a nation with a secular government that derived its existence from the common consent of her citizens rather than some divine source.

How stupid can your lawmakers be? Uh, how stupid to you want them to be? I'm sure they can rise to any occasion on short notice.
They can meddle in murder trials.
Dodge their responsibilities knowing you people don't know the difference.
They vote on laws without even bothering to read them.
Dude, how stupid do you want them to be?

Reality shows our government officials all together have no idea how to run a country. They are making up nonsense laws to cover the actual laws that were put in order decades ago to make it look as though they still care about our country. This "animal cruelty" law is one good example. They cannot prosecute John Doe because he has to go on trial to prove he is "not guilty" of beating a human being to the point of death, letting him plea to simple assault. So now that they can prove John Doe is not taking care of his animal makes them look better. Our government and officials rely on "hear say" entirely too much. They do not investigate anything that is actually a crime, so they hire "criminals" by not making them pay for their crime.

Amen, kj!! Right you are! This was NOT founded as a CHRISTIAN nation. As a matter of fact, one could not call Benjamin Franklin a Christian. He 'doubted the divinity of Jesus' You cannot be a Christian without believing Jesus is the Son of God.
Look at the Middle Eastern countries. When you try to make what YOU interpret scriptures say into the law of the land, liberty DIES!
Keep those thing you believe. ... but don't try to force others to believe as you do, or make your beliefs the law of the land.
I really do not understand SOME Christians. What gives them the RIGHT to force their beliefs on others? Jesus came as a baby. About the only people he spoke harshly of was the religions leaders of the day. He kept company of "sinners"... prostitutes, stood and defended the woman taken in adultery. Jesus didn't have to come as he did. He could have come with a legion of angels, with a set of rules and laws and FORCED everyone to obey them. HE didn't, so again I ask: What give YOU the right?
KJ... I noticed all the "don't likes" under your comment. People hate it when you point out something they believe is true, is not in fact true at all.
BTW... I have been a Christian all my life.

bill: people are like cows in that they will follow the tail in front of them wherever it goes. You could group a hundred people together, lay a pack of hotdogs on the table, and pronounce them to be hen eggs, and then have 5 of your friends in the group agree, and the rest of them would agree too.
Moo baby. Moo

The ones who make stupid laws probably voted in the on line poll. 4% think the 4th is to celebrate the start of the revolutionary war and 12 percent think it's the end of the civil war! Makes you wonder, don't it? Lord, help us.
