Questions priorities of Nunnelee and Harper
According to Bloomberg Financial, because of the recent Dow Jones Industrial increase, the wealthiest 100 people in the US "earned" $27.8 billion. At the same time, 3.8 million people will see their unemployment benefits reduced by the sequester.
Some Congressmen want to reduce payments for social programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and your parents' social security while protecting low tax rates for the likes of the 100 people mentioned above. Some congressmen want to raise tax rates for the 100 people above to increase revenue while protecting social programs for the economically lower and middle classes. Congress cannot agree; thus the sequester. But considering who contributes to Congressional campaign funds and hires lobbyists, can you guess who will win?
Our own Hon. Alan Nunnelee and Hon. Gregg Harper are all for the Ryan Budget that passed the House last week. I would like for them to explain to their constituents just what "entitlements" and programs they would like to cut, and how those cuts would affect Mississippians, and why they are willing to stagnate our economy to protect low tax rates for corporations and wealthy individuals. And I would like for them to release a list of their campaign donors.
Meanwhile, the Mississippi Legislature debated the borders of Israel before that wise and august body adjourned. I guess it's all a matter of priorities, is it not?
