Brooks, McDaniel and homosexuality
For once, I commend Supervisor Brooks. If his attempt is honest and works out, it would be the start of a great improvement not only for blacks in this region, but all citizens as well, regardless of ethnic background. I wish him well. It will take a dedicated effort from everyone and a lot of time for this to be successful, but this country needs it to be.
I don’t care who voted for or against McDaniel in the recent Republican primary election. He, and others, may genuinely believe the election was rigged or tainted or rife with illegalities, or whatever, but the fact remains that Cochran has been certified the winner. Suck it up and move on. There will be other chances, perhaps with better odds of winning. Pick your fights smarter. It would be far better for all involved to change the way we vote here in Mississippi. Run truly open primaries where all candidates, regardless of party affiliation, are put on the same ballot. If there is no clear winner, have a runoff with the top vote-getters.
Starkville is in an uproar over the recent decision to not allow certain people to be covered under Starkville’s employee insurance. The main point of contention, as I see it, is allowing same-sex “marriages” to be covered.
As a Christian, I believe that homosexuality is an abomination unto the Lord. I also believe that it is not up to us to condemn those people. Let him who is without sin cast the first stone. God will judge everyone on judgment day. Let us try to live by His guidelines. One day we will have to face Him on the throne.
