Questions regarding MAEP
I think more information needs to be shared with the public on who came up with the formula, and its merits. Will more money help students want to learn, be motivated, and take initiative? After education is fully funded how much will test scores and results improve; will some teachers fill the pressure to cheat in order to justify this full funding measure? If someone doesn’t want to learn, how can you force them to learn? In the current culture of American society where drugs and violence are glorified, and the family structure has been decimated by several factors; I don’t think funding is the issue. Our main problems result from a lack of ethics, values, and morality, which our public schools are prohibited from teaching by law through a perversion of the first amendment.
If the educators, Mississippi Department of Education, Mississippi Professional Educators, and Mississippi Association of Educators spent as much time on educational philosophy, accurate testing, and education reform as they do on teacher pay and funding maybe Mississippi wouldn’t be last in education. Where were the MDE, MPE, and MAE, and concerned educators when No Child Left Behind was being forced on us, what about common core, or the control of textbooks?
