Impressed by progress in hometown and two local ‘treasures’
Recently I had the pleasure of returning to my hometown of Columbus for one of the few times in the past 50 years. Wow, so much has changed. Columbus is booming.
I was so proud to see the tremendous progress and the beautiful smiling faces. I did not realize how much I have missed the roots that made me in so many ways what I became as a man until spending a week with friends and family. Thank you Columbus for my first 24 years of life. I plan to write a Tribute to My Hometown very soon and send it to all my friends.
So many people stood out to me during my visit, however, I wanted to personally express my thoughts about two of Columbus’ most gracious ladies, Mona Vance at the library and Jane Smith, a realtor.
Mona is a treasure Columbus should be so proud of. Her work has so much meaning to the present and future. Jane and I went to Lee High together and she has literally been the glue that held all of us bonded as classmates and friends for all these years. I know her DAR work and what she did for The First Christian Church were outstanding among the many other things she does everyday for so many. I know there are many more, but those two must be two of Columbus’s Unsung Heroes that deserve praise and so much appreciation for their tremendous contribution to the city and to others.
Thank you Columbus for allowing me to be a part of your past and for what you have meant to my life.
