Sees double standards in national politics
The Democrats in Congress are accusing the Republican majority of attaching a “poison pill” rider onto a bill being sent to the President for his signature. Obama has two options, veto or sign (or ignore and allow to become law). The bill will overturn his key immigration policies he enacted without the “assistance” of Congress, which is supposed to be the body which passes laws. The “poison pill” funds the Department of Homeland Security, with the funds needed for anti-terrorist purposes.
The Democrats are crying, “foul!” Look, the pot can’t call the kettle black. Remember a Republican President who vowed “no new taxes” not too long ago? The Democrat majority Congress sent him a bill he had to sign or they would have painted him with a mighty dirty brush! What goes around, comes around.
I do not believe that this is “good politics”. (That isn’t an oxymoron, is it?) Politics is dirty and it’s hardball, but when the best interests of our nation is at stake, act like grown men and women and do what’s right.
Speaking of what’s right, I read that when Speaker Boehner fought off a bid to unseat him, he “rewarded” those who opposed him with less-important committee positions, or none at all. That’s petty, even if it is par for the course. He does not deserve that position any more than anybody else. If he had the best interest of America at heart, he would ignore those who opposed him keeping the Speaker’s gavel and put the best talent where they were most needed. He’s not the only small-minded Speaker to have acted this way, and unfortunately, won’t be the last.
We truly need men and women of character to serve us in the Congress and our State Legislature, and local governments. We, the voters, have the power to upgrade our servant staff. Partisan politics be hanged, let’s put qualified people in office.
