Objects to cartoon’s portrayal of Republicans
The ignorance and stereotyping in your political cartoon (Luckovich, Wednesday, Feb. 18) is breathtaking. I am a Republican. I believe the earth is getting warmer, and I believe that the world needs to be as clean as possible. Even die-hard climate change adherents (note: the change from global warming since the earth has warmed by a scant .2 degrees in the last 15 years) admit that if we spent trillions we can’t make a significant change in the temperature in the next 100 years.
Our president said we will drop our emissions by 25% but that China can do as it wishes until 2030, and then they might make changes.
I just am unwilling to put vast authority and power in the hands of elitist bureaucrats, who cannot balance a budget or predict the weather with accuracy next month. On guns I will note that gun violence has declined in direct proportion to the number of new guns bought in this country. Carry permits have not led to a flurry of violence and the worst violence is in cities with Democrat mayors with the tightest gun laws.
Benghazi would have been no scandal if our president would have taken the proverbial 3 a.m. phone call and said “Get them out or protect them no matter what you have to do and do it NOW!” I will also note that the embassy in Paris has more protection than was in Benghazi. Instead he woke up and had a relaxed day golfing.
On taxes I would point out that over 70% of the taxes are paid by the top 10 percent already. The real problem is that wages for working folks have stagnated for a long time and yet our president wants to bring five million new workers into the legal job market when the labor participation rate has not been this low in 40 years, a problem fixed by a Republican president at that time. Every economist understands more supply in the same demand means lower prices, and in this case lower wages.
And on that topic I will point out that Republicans are agreeable to fixing this problem, but only after the border is closed so that the problem does not reoccur perpetually. What is so hard about that?
And who believes that Democrats would feel the same way about immigration if they thought all of them would become Republicans? Shoot, they would be on the border locked arm in arm to stop them!
Obama is not a Muslim, but he has attended the Muslim day of prayer when he did not attend the Christian national day of prayer. He has said the call to prayer from the minaret is the most beautiful sound in the world. He bowed to the leader of Saudi Arabia as no president should; he refuses to call terrorism radical Islamic terrorism and he sad we were a Muslim nation when Muslims are about 1 percent and Christians are about 80 to 85 percent.
He appears to be unable to confront hard decisions since he said Osama bin Laden was dead and General Motors was alive because it is contrary to his narrative that Al Qaeda is on the run. Really? Who wouldn’t feel ill at ease? The vast majority of Republicans are for equal rights for everyone, including the LGBT population.
The Bible says give unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s and civil law is such a thing.
No one wants war with Iran but appeasement has a very poor historical record in stopping war. Any thinking person, including many Democrats in Congress believe his approach is suspect. Is there any rational person who believes Iran would not eventually use the bomb if they got it?
I am a Christian and I believe the Bible is truth, but the New Testament is about grace and the absence of judgment, which is God’s prerogative. I believe that science cannot be contrary to God since he created it. So which is it?
Are you just ignorant are you just purposely venal in your portrayal of Republicans?
