Scott Colom has credentials
I have known Scott Colom his entire life. If elected, you can be certain of one thing: He has the credentials and background that will ensure that a district attorney’s office that has been the subject of condemnation by national commentators will, without doubt, become one of the most effective and respected throughout the state. For those not acquainted with his background and accomplishments, consider the following:
After graduating from Millsaps, Scott was selected to teach in Guyana, South America, by World Teach, a nonprofit, non-governmental organization based at the Center for International Development at Harvard University. He taught English in a small rural town in Guyana, where he lived for a year with no running water and electricity for only a few hours a day.
Scott went to the University of Wisconsin Law School, where he graduated cum laude. While in law school, he interned with the chief prosecutor for the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in Arusha, Tanzania. He was also of 25 students nationwide awarded a summer honors internship with the United States Department of Justice.
After law school, Scott was one of 28 young legal professionals nationwide to be awarded a prestigious Skadden Fellowship to work with the Mississippi Center for Justice. During the fellowship, Scott worked with a group of non-profits and established organizations to combat the growth of predatory lending in Mississippi, as well as help develop affordable, asset building alternatives.
During his time in office, Forest Allgood prosecuted innocent victims who spent decades in prison, including death row. These miscarriages of justice have brought the office into disrepute. It is time to elect someone dedicated to the proposition of “Equal Justice Under The Law.” That person is Scott Colom.
