Mr. Gross states that President Obama has frozen the cola increases for Social Security recipients for 2010 and 2011 (Voice of the people, Jan. 29 The worst one-termers). He did not. These increases are based on inflation. For 2010 the inflation was nil.
The following is an excerpt taken from the budget proposed by President Obama being presented to the Congress for their approval on 2//1/10.
The budget will also propose $250 payments to Social Security recipients to bolster their finances in a year when they are not receiving the normal cost-of-living boost to their benefit checks because of low inflation.
Instead of the double whammy being on the backs of the elderly and disabled, it''s on the back of Raymond Gross.

Well, my goodness, Mr Hodges, I didn't know liberals could be so insensitive. BO has been in charge for over a year now. In my book, the buck stops at his desk and it's all his fault no matter how much you and BO blame President Bush. Just suck it up and admit it , the works have been screwed up ever since he became Senator. The good people of Ill. should have elected Mr Keyes. How blind they were.
You're so kind to agree with me about the double whammy being partly on my back because I am elderly and disabled. Don't know about your health or age but hopefully you are still in good health, employed and paying into BO's slush fund.
James E. Hodges commented at 2/9/2010 12:16:00 PM:
You didn't know that I could be so insensitive and, after listening to Angela McGlowan, who will be back at the Courthouse Thursday, probably didn't know that I could tell the truth.
It took Bush almost eight years to create this recession/depression. To expect someone to solve it in a year is not being fair.
Maybe you can explain to us why the Bush administration did not include the cost of the two (2) wars in the budget, the medicare prescription plan that was passed, with no provision to pay for it, a tax cut for the wealthy. Over a year before he left office, the recession/depression had started to add more to the deficit, because of less taxes being paid. More than half of the deficit was there, left by Bush, when BO took over.
For Bush's retirement present, we should have given him a one year extension to correct his mess.
BO is trying to ease that whammy on your back by $250, if congress will pass it and you don't appear to be grateful at all. You need to praise him!
You need to be careful about those NY Times articles. Three years ago, this writer for them fabricated (not true) this article that really hurt their reputation.
As for me, I am retired and have lot less money when Bush left office than I did before he was sworn in. But I'm looking forward to being a recipient of that $250 from BO if congress will pass it.
James E. Hodges commented at 2/9/2010 1:59:00 PM:
Can't tell you about Illinois' problems, but the U. S. of America problems started when Bush (the corporation) was sworn in as President.

James,James, James, I feel sorry for you if you can't remember the 600. that the Bush administration sent to tax payers, it happenen to me twice while he was in office. If you didn't get yours, someone might have stolen it from your mailbox. BO is not giving you his 250., the money is ours and if it actually comes to pass, it's called a tax refund!! I doubt it ever happening, it's just more hot air coming our way . He says one thing to suck you poor liberals in and then socks it to everybody with higher taxes. You will probably just send your 250 back to the white house, right? Why would a liberal want to accept a tax refund?

Were you ever in the military, Mr. Hodges? Do you have relatives who have ever served? If so , how can you remain loyal to someone like BO? You must not know much about BO at all if you don't know how he used the wrong rev. wright's church to be elected to the Ill state gov and then on to dc after winning an election over Mr. Keyes. That's when the dems got control of both houses and things started to get really screwed up. That was the last two years of Mr Bushes presidency- that's right, it was the dems who actually screwed up the works.
The Democrats of 09 inherited a deficit smaller than the stimulus bill they passed! So it seems to me that the dems are being disingenious by increasing the debt by 3-4 times and then blaming it on a guy who wasnt even there to sign the checks! This is BOs and the Dems debt and everyone who can count knows this! Im not sure why the dems keep blaming Bush, because most people can figure out by themselve that this simply isnt true.

Good morning melody and gogetum
I'm sure that each of you know that our election process is fair.
In '08, why did Obama and the democrats get elected?
Please, just the facts!
gogetum commented at 2/10/2010 11:20:00 AM:
Might as well give up on Hodges-the NY times is the bible of every liberal and that's why they are not as smart as conservatives. Bye Bye
JJ commented at 2/11/2010 7:35:00 PM:
melody? You and gogetum should answer Hodges' question that he asked you. He really may not know why. Educate him!
observer2 commented at 2/11/2010 9:24:00 PM:
I'll answer his question and it will do you good to watch this to JJ. Joseph tells exactly why and how Obama was elected and what he is trying to accomplish. You'll be shocked. The lady gives a short talk first so be sure to listen to all that Joseph has to say. Good education.
You'll have to copy and paste the address.
JJ commented at 2/12/2010 7:04:00 AM:
observer2,you can blame it on Bush and the Republicans.
One would think, after hearing them talk now, with the likes of Rush, Dick, FOX,Glen and Karl on the side of Bush, that he would have left Office in a "Hale of Glory" and McCain would have gone in on the coat tail of Bush.
But no,he left AND left our Great Country in shambles.
Question: Why did Obama and the Democrats get elected?
Answer: Because of Bush and the Republicans.
Question finally answered!
melody commented at 2/12/2010 8:50:00 AM:
To Observer2, What a revealing speech by Joseph and should be an eye opener for people like Hodges and JJ. But don;t you think those kind of people just aren't smart enough to get out of the liberal rut and start getting their education from the very sources JJ mentioned. It was all the liberal states who elected BO , thank the Lord that the Majority of real southerners aren't so easily led astray. Florida went for BO but that's where all those yankees go to retire, you know how that is.
observer2 commented at 2/12/2010 12:34:00 PM:
You right there, melody. Things are looking up though, even in Fla. The smarter ones are seeing how BO lied his way into the white house and now has an approval of mid 40's. So eyes are starting to open and only the more ignorant ones are still drinking BO's cool aid. Stuff like no new taxes for those making less than 250K and the "everything will be on C-span" lies are making BO a joke but still a few blind followers still remain loyal. Must be a racial thing with most of them. Just can't wait till June and Nov. this year. Go tea bagers, Go!

It is time to cast aside all remaining doubt. President Obama is not trying to lead America forward to recovery, prosperity and strength. Quite the opposite, in fact.
In September of last year, American Thinker published my article, Barack Obama and the Strategy of Manufactured Crisis. Part of a series, it connected then-presidential candidate Barack Obama to individuals and organizations practicing a malevolent strategy for destroying our economy and our system of government. Since then, the story of that strategy has found its way across the blogosphere, onto the airwaves of radio stations across the country, the Glenn Beck television show, Bill O'Reilly, and now Mark Levin.
The methodology is known as the Cloward-Piven Strategy, and we can all be grateful to David Horowitz and his Discover the Networks for originally exposing and explaining it to us. He describes it as:
The strategy of forcing political change through orchestrated crisis. The "Cloward-Piven Strategy" seeks to hasten the fall of capitalism by overloading the government bureaucracy with a flood of impossible demands, thus pushing society into crisis and economic collapse.
Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven were two lifelong members of Democratic Socialists of America who taught sociology at Columbia University (Piven later went on to City University of New York). In a May 1966 Nation magazine article titled "The Weight of the Poor," they outlined their strategy, proposing to use grassroots radical organizations to push ever more strident demands for public services at all levels of government.
The result, they predicted, would be "a profound financial and political crisis" that would unleash "powerful forces ... for major economic reform at the national level."
They implemented the strategy by creating a succession of radical organizations, most notable among them the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), with the help of veteran organizer Wade Rathke. Their crowning achievement was the "Motor Voter" act, signed into law by Bill Clinton in 1993 with Cloward and Piven standing behind him.
As we now know, ACORN was one of the chief drivers of high-risk mortgage lending that eventually led to the financial crisis. But the Motor Voter law was another component of the strategy. It created vast vulnerabilities in our electoral system, which ACORN then exploited.
ACORN's vote registration scandals throughout the U.S. are predictable fallout.
The Motor Voter law has also been used to open another vulnerability in the system: the registration of vast numbers of illegal aliens, who then reliably vote Democrat. Herein lies the real reason Democrats are so anxious for open borders, security be damned.
It should be clear to anyone with a mind and two eyes that this president and this Congress do not have our interests at heart. They are implementing this strategy on an unprecedented scale by flooding America with a tidal wave of poisonous initiatives, orders, regulations, and laws. As Rahm Emmanuel said, "A crisis is a terrible thing to waste."
The real goal of "health care" legislation, the real goal of "cap-and-trade," and the real goal of the "stimulus" is to rip the guts out of our private economy and transfer wide swaths of it over to the government to control. Do not be deluded by the propaganda. These initiatives are vehicles for change. They are not goals in and of themselves except in their ability to deliver power. They and will make matters much worse, for that is their design.
This time, in addition to overwhelming the government with demands for services, Obama and the Democrats are overwhelming political opposition to their plans with a flood of apocalyptic legislation. Their ultimate goal is to leave us so discouraged, demoralized, and exhausted that we throw our hands up in defeat. As Charles Rangel* said, "the middle class will be too distracted to fight."
These people are our enemies. They don't use guns, yet, but they are just as dangerous, determined, and duplicitous as the communists we faced in the Cold War, Korea, Vietnam, and bush wars across the globe, and the Nazis we faced in World War II.
It is time we fully internalized and digested this fact, with all its ugly ramifications. These people have violated countless laws and could be prosecuted, had we the political power. Not only are their policies unconstitutional, but deliberately so -- the goal being to make the Constitution irrelevant. Their spending is off the charts and will drive us into hyperinflation, but it could be rescinded, had we the political power. These policies are toxic, but they could be stopped and reversed, had we the political power. Their ideologies are poisonous, but they could be exposed for what they are, with long jail sentences as an object lesson, had we the political power.
Every single citizen who cares about this country should be spending every minute of his or her spare time lobbying, organizing, writing, and planning. Fight every initiative they launch. It is all destructive. If we are to root out this evil, it is critical that in 2010 we elect competent, principled leaders willing to defend our Constitution and our country. Otherwise, the malevolent cabal that occupies the government today will become too entrenched..

so instead of a raise that goes with the cost of living we get a whole $250.00.
so should we save it, or put it towards that extra $1700.00 we are exxpected to be paying this year thanks to cap and trade. or are we supposed to divide that up for the year, which amounts to a whole $20.83 a month. or better yet $4,81 a week. or is supposed to last for the next 2 years. yep here we go again.
I do not deny this tidbit won't help, but it is like trying to fix a leak in Hoover damn, with a bandaid.
and what a lot of you do not realize is everyone on social security pays a monthly premium for medicare, we do not get it free. plus we have to meet a deductible every year, plus we pay the difference that medicare does not pay.
so before you start cheering realize, this really won't help in the longrun.
and as Mrs. Big ZERO herself stated whn Bush gave out his stimulus checks last year,
' "You're getting $600.00- what can you do with that?" Mrs. Obama said in Pontiac, Michigan last week "Not to be ungrateful or anything, but maybe it pays down a bill, but it doesn't pay down every bill every month. The short-term quick fix kinda stuff sounds good, and it may even feel good that first month when you get that check, and then you go out and you buy a pair of earrings. " '
Michelle Obama's $600 Earrings, written by Amanda CArpenter, Tuesday, July 15, 2008.
or maybe you prefer this. from the big ZERO himself.
from Obama 08: Barack Obama's plan to stimulate the economy.
"The goal should be to lessen the pain that waould occur from an economy-wide slow down, not to use American's economic hardship, as a rationale for enacting an Ideologically Driven Agenda."
so $600.00 was not enough, especially as she points out you go out and buy a pair of earrings with it, duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
remember that was when gas was $4.00 a gallon,..
and no one should use bad economic times to further their own IDEOLOGICALLY DRIVEN AGENDA.
and if that does not make them both hypocrites, I don't know what does.

I'm surprised that you did not blame ACORN for the wars and the fall of Enron.
Iran and NK would be hard pressed to come up with that much propaganda.
