Fond memories of Shower of Stars
Birney, enjoyed your piece on Golden Eagle Syrup (Partial to home: ‘A bit of Alabama History’) and the Shower of Stars.
Had Golden Eagle with my biscuits yesterday morning. I can’t recall how many Shower of Stars I attended … many with my Mom and sister; but, the only one unchaperoned was most memorable. Not for the performers on stage; but the crew I was with: Mike Logan and Lamar Kemp to name a few.
We stopped at WVOK on the way into Birmingham. Logan had to request “Come Back When You Grow Up, Girl” for a former girlfriend.
Forgot the name of the place we were staying; but it was where one of our party went for a swim in the closed pool…think it was in March. I recall having a great bowl of chili at some greasy-spoon in downtown B’ham the Sunday morning after. Could have been I was starving. Wonderful, cloudy memories.
